Callie Beale’s Photography Kit of Awesomeness & Photo Magic Creator Things | DIGITAL STUFF

I am often asked what I shoot with… and I just now wised up enough to put it all in one place to reference easily. While you can definitely take absolutely gorgeous images with anything you’ve got… regardless if it’s the latest and greatest… these are the tools I make the photography magic happen with. I will give you a little run down of each and I am happy to answer any questions that you may have! Be sure to keep an eye out for some additional posts on lighting, accessories and film equipment that I use!

**EDIT** I got a little weird here. But have you met me in person? Lol. I do stand by all of the things 100% and no, none of these companies are paying me to push products. I just love ’em. I think you will too.

Nikon D800e or you can get a certified refurbished one a little cheaper here.

Oh man. This is my baby. My precious. I am so drawn to this camera because of it’s killer performance in low light situations. I can shoot at an ISO of 6400 and it turn out gorgeous with minimally intrusive grain. Such a beaut. Clients reading this who have chosen to get married in a church…. at night… that has rules against flash and where I have to stay in the back or balcony… thank the Nikon Gods for this one…. haha! Your images will be crisp and full of light nonetheless.

Nikon D700

This is my backup camera. And the camera that I hands down recommend to people looking to step up their photo game beyond the consumer ones that mostly boast of fancy bells and whistles that really don’t affect photo quality at. all. I adore this camera because it packs so much power and has separate designated dials for aperture and shutter speed. Which is so handy if you are going to *gasp* get brave enough to venture away from auto mode. High five, girl (or bro?) YOU CAN DO IT!

Nikon 85mm 1.8D

This is my go-to for portraits. Little known fact is that the higher the number on the lens the less lens distortion there is. AKA YOU LOOK SLIMMER! Sorry… as you can see I don’t have a 23987492834723mm lens in my kit but have no fear… I don’t want to brag but I can kind of be a posing jedi at times. So if you’re in front of this lens or any lens of mine- the answer is yes, girl I will make sure your neck is elongated and those arms are residing just where they need to be. Haha.

Nikon 50mm 1.4G

This is hands down the first lens you need to buy. It’s the most universal lens and will never let you down. It stays on my camera about 85% of the time. Throw that kit lens (that came with your camera) in the trash…. or make a cute planter or something with it…. because you will never want to take another photo with that one after this. As you will notice these lenses I am posting that are just “xmm” means that they are prime or fixed lenses. Which means they don’t zoom. But they do create gorgeous separation between background and foreground… thanks to that lil’ 1.4/1.8 aperture. It’s what makes your subject stand out and not look like it’s from one of those disposable cameras. Luckily the 50mm is one of the more affordable lenses as well! Hip hip hooray!

Nikon 35mm 1.8G ED

This is my latest addition to the lens sisterhood. It’s for wide angles- like landscapes and reception photos. I likey.

Tamron 70-200mm

I have this one if I am restricted to where I can stand/move. It really does a great job! It’s much more affordable than the Nikon counterpart and performs really well.

I hope that this has been helpful! I think there’s an applicable quote about how it’s not what you have but what you do with what you have… right? I have crossed too many lines in this post. Please still be my friend. Again- feel free to leave any comments or questions and I am happy to help! If you, too get asked often about gear feel free to share! XOXO.
