Caitlin & Josh | Governor’s Island Engagement Session | NYC Wedding Photographer

FILED IN: Portraits

I have been waiting to shoot this engagement session for quite some time now! Let me break it down for ya so you can fully feel my excitement. Caitlin and Josh are BOTH dancers in New York City with Third Rail Projects. Living the dream! They met dancing a solo to “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” Which will also be the first dance song at their wedding in April that happens to be my most favorite place to shoot! When Caitlin told me that it was one of those moments where you just have to stop everything you’re doing and catch your breath. Can’t make this stuff up. On top of being extremely talented, graceful people- they are KIND, so much fun to be around and simply the best anyway you look at it. THANK YOU for choosing me to capture these precious images for you!

We photographed this session at Governor’s Island, where Caitlin and the dancers she leads collaborated with painters for a dance + color installation. You ferry over to Governor’s Island from Manhattan- it has a killer view of the Statue of Liberty, Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn and New Jersey. It’s a 172 acre island in the heart of New York Harbor and totally a world within itself. It’s like you’re in Pleasantville! It used to be a major headquarters for the US Army & Coast Guard. It has the cutest little “neighborhood” of two story colonial homes. The homes are wasting away but are still structurally sound. They have turned each of them into artist residencies. There are food trucks, gourmet ice cream stands, a field of red hammocks, a sculpted rock mountain overlook spot, and all of the adorable staples of a tiny American town- a theatre, church, legal building, etc. There were families on tandem bikes, a vintage car show along the water…. I could go on and on and on and never be able to relay the full measure of awesome that was Governors Island.

On your next trip to NYC you should checkout Caitlin & Josh doing their thing with Third Rail Projects Third Rail Projects. www.thirdrailprojects.com. Plan ahead, though because their shows tend to sell out quickly!
