Miracles

FILED IN: Personal

Immediately before the surprise proposal above, Daniel and I witnessed a great miracle. Daniel had asked if I would help him shoot a surprise proposal on Tybee Island. Of course I agreed! As I was waiting for Daniel to arrive I noticed some commotion going on by the jetties. I soon learned that a fisherman had waded in the water to retrieve his line and found himself unable to get back to shore. The tide was relentless and he was yelling “HELP! HELP ME!” as we tried contacting the coast guard or anyone to come rescue him. After about 15 minutes this bystander started heading into the water. His wife was so upset and begging him to stay in the safety of the shore but he kept going. At this point I honestly thought the older fisherman was going to drown if he hadn’t already and that the guy swimming to help was faced with a great deal of danger as well. I walked towards where Daniel was waiting on the beach but was immediately overcome with this strong feeling that I was supposed to go back and talk to the frantic wife who was panicking at the thought of losing her husband. I hugged her as she was completely losing it and prayed for the men’s safety. The only way I can think to describe the distinct feeling I felt is being the needed calm in the middle of the storm. HAHA admittedly I do get the same powers during some wedding days as well…. I truly believe that it’s not from me. It seemed like forever went by until we finally saw that her husband would be able to bring the guy back to safety. I asked if she minded if I took some photos and she said please do. I told her that her husband may be stubborn but he was also a hero! Man, what a day. Especially to go from that to a surprise proposal. I get the feeling sometimes that God is fond of photographers being present (as well as a nurse who happened to be walking by) for big life moments.
